On February 17, 2006, after a struggle that lasted six months, Vitória was finally transferred from the private zoo Paraíso Perdido, in Ceará, and given a new future.
After a journey that lasted more than 36 hours, she arrived very frightened. She was extremely suspicious and shy, but little by little she began to trust the team and to enjoy her new home, which offered many opportunities for long play sessions with other chimpanzees.
Today, she lives in a group of six individuals, with Lucy as her best friend, with whom she shared the task of raising Noel throughout all these years. She also looks after Dino and always protects him in tense moments. When she wants food, she claps her hands. Vitória seems to have recovered from her past life and overcome her traumas.
Fun fact: The chimpanzees Peter, Táta and Judy, who live at the Great Apes Sanctuary of Sorocaba, were part of the same group as Vitória in the zoos they passed through before being rescued.
